Mutual Funds Weekly: Slow And Steady Still Wins The Investing Race

Don’t miss these top money and investing features:

This week’s digest offers a reminder that investing is no way to get rich quick.

That may seem out of touch, given the surging price of bitcoin and other crypto-assets, as well as the stock market’s hefty gains so far this year.

But the truth is that financial security is earned over time, with investment portfolios spread over many different types of assets. Sure, bitcoin is exciting — way more so than some S&P 500-tracking mutual fund. But most of us don’t invest looking for casino-style excitement. Ask yourself: would you have spent good money on bitcoin when it was unknown and sold for 100 bucks, let alone 1,000? Read more about why the best rewards from investing come to those who spread their risk and wait. Then, check out a year-end tax-advantaged strategy for any losing stocks. And if bitcoin seems too bubbly, get to know some stocks that are involved with the blockchain technology that is the backbone of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies — and which some say could be the next internet.
