Sheriffs Deputy, Man Accused Of Defrauding Insurance Company

A sheriff’s deputy and another local man have been indicted for their role in a scheme to falsely claim on auto insurance.

The two - deputy Christopher James and resident Kelvin Tolliver of Wilkinson County, MS - have each been charged with conspiracy and wire fraud.

An indictment alleges that the two men conspired to forge documents indicating that Tolliver’s all-terrain vehicle had been stolen so that he would not have to repay a bank loan. The document also said that Tolliver submitted a claim to his insurer, Mississippi Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance. The insurer paid him $12,800.

James’s attorney issued a statement last week outlining that he had not read the indictment, The Associated Press reported. Court records did not indicate whether Tolliver had an attorney.

On top of his duties as a deputy, James also works as a guard at Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.
