Liberty Specialty Markets names new head of oil and gas

Liberty Specialty Markets, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced the promotion of Paul Sankey (pictured) to global head of oil and gas, in addition to his role as head of the company’s energy and construction teams in London.

“Paul has been instrumental in growing the oil and gas portfolio into a market-leading franchise,” said Mike Gosselin, Liberty Specialty Markets’ chief underwriting officer for specialty. “With his extensive knowledge of the energy sector, he is ideally placed to take on this broader position. I’m confident that he will add tremendous value to both our broker partners and policyholders in the global energy marketplace.”

Sankey has been with Liberty for 14 years, serving first as a senior underwriter before managing the oil and gas team. In 2018, he was promoted to head of energy and construction. Sankey is a chartered chemical engineer and spent 11 years in the oil and gas industry. In 2017, he was elected chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Onshore Energy Business Panel.
