AXIS Re names new president of EMEA, LatAM regions

AXIS Re, AXIS Capital Holdings’ reinsurance business segment, has named Andy Hottinger as president of its EMEA LatAM division.

Hottinger will succeed outgoing EMEA LatAM president Jan Ekberg, who will retire in July following a 45-year career – 15 of those years spent at AXIS.

As part of his appointment, Hottinger will be made part of AXIS’s reinsurance leadership team. He will also report to AXIS Re CEO Steve Arora. A release said that he will assume his new responsibilities on July 01, 2019, following Ekberg’s retirement.

“Andy has a deep understanding of our company’s strategy and values, as well as opportunities for future growth. He is a respected leader who has continually delivered high-quality results. His mix of technical expertise and people leadership skills will serve AXIS Re well as he assumes leadership of our important EMEA and LatAm reinsurance business,” said Arora.

Hottinger most recently served as EMEA head of property at AXIS Re. Prior to that, he was head of engineering and property risk and has held a variety of underwriting managerial roles within the company.

AXIS Capital president and CEO Albert Benchimol also issued a statement regarding the retirement of Jan Ekberg, thanking him for his “tremendous contributions to the company.”

“Jan has played a significant role in helping our reinsurance business grow from a start-up into a global player. Jan is a talented leader and a consummate professional, and he will always be a part of our family at AXIS,” the chief executive said.
