Chaos in Estepona urbanisation results in death and a possible manslaughter charge.
British expats living in the Costa del Sol’s favourite retirement hangout of Estepona could be forgiven for cursing the day they decided to retire in one of this popular hub’s charming urbanisations. Over the past several years, the bad old days of drug running, Mafia involvement and a good few shootings seem to have reestablished the Costas as a destination to avoid, with the troubling tale of a recent death possibly the latest reason.
It seems one 36 year-old British male given to running around in his underwear and leaping over his neighbours’ garden fences late at night has finally met his match and is now dead, possibly much to local expat residents’ relief as well as that of local police fed up with having to deal with him. Apparently, as he lived was as he died, at the hands of a neighbour whose house he was attempting to enter at around 11p.m.
Security footage from a street camera the victim himself had installed showed him attempting to gain entry to the next door dwelling, with its owner pulling him back and causing him to miss his step, fall and hit his head on the concrete. He began to convulse and soon died, with his death recorded on his own security camera. Police reports state he’d taken illegal drugs, but the actual cause of death is as yet unknown. Whatever the cause of death, his neighbour is now under arrest and may be charged with reckless manslaughter, should the blow to his head as it hit the concrete be the villain in the case.
Reports by Spanish media about the incident didn’t mention local expatriate reaction but, given the description of the dead man’s behaviour patterns, it’s just possible local residents might well be planning a celebration.
