American Airlines has announced a $125 million project to redevelop the dining and shopping experience at New York JFK’s Terminal 8.
The two-year project will be carried out in partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports, and will add a new Great Hall with more than 60 new dining and retail options at the terminal.
It follows the unveiling of the $400 million expansion of JFK’s Terminal 8 towards the end of last year, which saw British Airways move into the terminal alongside its oneworld partner American.

The new project will include a small business accelerator program for Queens and Locally Based Enterprises, to encourage locally owned small businesses to take up space in Terminal 8.
The development has also partnered with The Green Restaurant Association, with a view to all eligible tenants becoming Certified Green Restaurants.
The redevelopment of JFK’s Terminal 8 is part of the airport’s wider $19 billion transformation programme, which includes a new Terminal 6 – the first gates for which are expected to open in 2026.
And last year Air France, Etihad and LOT were named as anchor airlines of the forthcoming JFK New Terminal One – a $9.5 billion project slated for completion in 2030.
Commenting on the news Port Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole, said:
“Visitors from around the world will get their first taste of what our region has to offer as soon as they step into JFK’s Terminal 8, which, like all of our new airport terminals, will feature a wide range of local dining and shops. Local businesses help us create a sense of place unique to the region.”
