British Airways has announced plans for a new route to Ivalo in Finland.
The seasonal service from Gatwick will be operated by the carrier’s BA Euroflyer subsidiary, with twice-weekly flights launching on 3 December, 2024 and running until 14 February, 2025.
Ivalo is situated in Lapland in the Arctic Circle, and is home to Finland’s most northerly airport. It is also the gateway to the winter sports resort village of Saariselka.
Flight BA2860 will depart Gatwick’s South Terminal at 0835 on Tuesdays and Fridays, arriving into Ivalo at 1430, with the return leg BA2861 leaving at 1530 and landing back into London at 1730.
Return fares start from £345. Ivalo Airport is also served seasonally by TUI from Gatwick and Manchester.
The news follows BA’s recent announcement of its first ever flights from Heathrow to the Norwegian city of Tromso this winter.
The route – which will become the most northerly destination in the airline’s network – will operate twice-weekly (Thursday and Sunday) between 1 December, 2024 and 27 March, 2025.
Commenting on the news Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer, said:
“Our BA Euroflyer network continues to grow, and we are excited for a new addition to our winter schedule, alongside the likes of Innsbruck and Geneva.
“Lapland is synonymous with winter and Ivalo is blanketed in snow for a large part of the year, so customers can expect a white Christmas, with some red and blue sprinkled in from British Airways for good measure.”
