The Peninsula In London, Worth £1 Billion

In a highly anticipated move, Peninsula Hotels has finally marked its territory in the United Kingdom with the opening of its exquisite new establishment in London's prestigious Belgravia district in September 2023. This strategic expansion fulfills the hotel group's long-held ambition to establish a presence in Britain.

Replacing a 1960s office block, the site has been transformed into a lavish £1 billion property by the acclaimed Hopkins Architects. The hotel boasts a sophisticated structure with five subterranean levels and eight above, encapsulating a blend of opulence and architectural finesse. It houses 190 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, a selection of fine dining restaurants and bars, a state-of-the-art spa and wellness centre, versatile meeting and event spaces, and nine high-end retail outlets. Additionally, the property features 25 exclusive residences with a discrete entrance on Halkin Street.

Peninsula London joins the esteemed portfolio of 11 other Peninsula properties located in global hotspots like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Paris, Bangkok, Manila, and Istanbul. This opening is concurrent with the arrival of other luxury hotels in the London hospitality scene, notably the Raffles London at The OWO.

Located on Grosvenor Place, the hotel offers a picturesque view of Wellington Arch and Hyde Park Corner, placing guests at the heart of London’s grandeur. Despite its proximity to a bustling roundabout, the hotel offers a serene escape in its off-street cobbled courtyard, designed by Enzo Enea and adorned with climbing plants and centennial Japanese maples.

A distinct feature of the Peninsula is its enviable fleet of custom-colored vehicles, including Rolls-Royce Phantom IIs and a vintage Austin taxi, available for guest transfers within a two-mile radius. My journey to the hotel in a bespoke hybrid Bentley Bentayga was elevated by the congeniality of my chauffeur, Ashok, who offered insightful commentary about London's evolving landscape.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by the grandeur of Peter Marino’s design, emphasizing natural light and spaciousness, complemented by British artistic elements and a triple-height lobby adorned with Hyde Park-inspired murals and opulent chandeliers.

The rooms at the Peninsula are a testament to luxury, with the smallest starting at 51 sqm. My Grand Premier Park Room offered a panoramic view of iconic London landmarks, cushioned against the city's bustle with soundproof windows. The room rates, while steep, are justified by the sheer scale and luxury of the accommodations.

The hotel's dining options are a culinary delight, from the all-day dining at The Lobby to the exclusive Brooklands restaurant and the Cantonese elegance of Canton Blue. Each dining space is uniquely themed, offering a range of gastronomic experiences.

For business and events, the hotel boasts impressive facilities, including the expansive St George Ballroom and a series of configurable meeting rooms. The leisure amenities are equally impressive, with the serene Peninsula Spa and Wellness Centre featuring a 25-metre heated pool and a fully-equipped 24-hour fitness centre.

In conclusion, The Peninsula London is a magnificent addition to the city's luxury hotel landscape, offering unparalleled hospitality, exquisite dining, and comprehensive amenities for both leisure and business travelers.
