In spite of the strong possibility of bad Brexit news, expats living and working in Eindhoven are looking forward to the Netherlands’ annual Happiness Week.

Started in Eindhoven in 2014, the city’s Happiness Week soon morphed into a seven-day long event for the entire country, and is due to take place this year from the 16th of March to the 24th. Offerings include a multitude of events including experiences, seminars, lectures, theatre performances and parties, with the entire week’s presentations hopefully able to take the city’s expat community’s mind off what may happen on the 29th!

The intent of the week is to increase awareness of and the need for happiness in every resident’s life, no matter what’s going on back in the real world. Working together with partners and friends to create happiness seems a very apposite, if not coincidental, activity at this troubled time in expats’ lives. The event will kick off at the Phillips Museum with the two-day Healthlab, an opportunity to check expats’ bodies’ health statuses relevant to their happiness levels. Female expats will enjoy Jam de la Femme, taking place on Marc h 17 and all about girl power, whilst the following day will feature B-Mind’s Jerome Wehrens’ English language seminar on finding happiness in life.

March 20 is all about playing with words at Bibliotheek Eindhoven, and promises fun for parents as well as their kids, whilst Happiness at Work will be explained at a workshop held at the Student Hotel. Eindhoven’s International Storytelling Group will be in action on March 22nd with their short theatre show entitled ‘The Wedding’, based on the actual experiences of group members. March 23 brings in the Big Festival, celebrating Dutch beers, and the final day celebrates Happiness Week with an official party at the Student Hotel, featuring a happy hour extending from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m!
