Bordeaux-based Brits desperate for a decent curry have elevated meals on wheels to a new height by chartering a plane to bring some in from a Portsmouth curry house.

Having spent ages complaining about the impossibility of finding a decent Indian curry in the world’s most famous gourmet heartland, a group of deprived British expats have found a way to access their hearts’ desire. They’ve hired a private plane to fly a massive quantity of much-missed Indian curries from the Ashak curry house in Portsmouth. According to organiser James Emery, the wacky idea soon took hold and the owner of the curry house was, unsurprisingly, as excited as were the expats themselves.

The flight is due to take place on Saturday, when the plane on arrival will be loaded up with endless varieties of take-away curry delights and fly straight back to a small airport near Bordeaux. Curry-lovers including 50 British expats will be waiting with bated breath, and the party will take place right there at the airport after the food has been reheated in the airport kitchen. According to James, the menu is extensive and is certain to please each and every style of curry fanatic attending the bash.

The restaurant is charging approximately £35 per person, but private sponsors are covering much of the cost in order to include those with British state pensions. Beer will be provided, and a great time will be had by all. Once the party’s over, the group will be forced to go back to eating versions of the world’s most famous cuisine whilst longing for another delicious Indian curry, and the plane’s pilot will be faced with the task of getting the spicy odour out of his aircraft.
