Wizz Air has announced plans to create a second UK base and expand routes out of Doncaster Sheffield airport.
The Hungarian low-cost carrier has operated flights out of Doncaster for over 14 years, but will now base an Airbus A320 at the airport, and add seven new routes to its existing network of ten destinations.
Flights to Alicante and Lublin (Poland) will launch on October 22, followed by Malaga, Kosice (Slovakia) and Faro on October 23, and Larnaca and Suceava (Romania) on October 25.
Wizz Air says the new base will increase its capacity out of Doncaster Sheffield by 150,000 seats per year.
Earlier this month the carrier called for EU airport slot “use-it-or-lose-it” rules to be reinstated, stating that the restrictions are preventing it from expanding at key airports.

With strong performance there is now a real possibility for the base to grow from one aircraft initially to a multi aircraft base further broadening the range of routes available.
