Belgian carrier VLM has announced a new service between Antwerp and the Scottish city of Aberdeen.

Flights will operate direct between the two cities on Mondays, and in a triangle Antwerp-Aberdeen-Birmingham-Antwerp routing on Wednesday and Fridays (with a 30-minute turnaround in Birmingham).

The new service will launch on June 4, and will be operated by a Fokker 50 turboprop aircraft.

To celebrate the new route, as well as newly-announced flights to Cologne/Bonn and Rostock, VLM is offering one-way flights for all existing and new destinations for €39.

VLM was launched in 1993 with flights between Antwerp and London City, but ceased operations in 2016 when the airline was grounded following bankruptcy proceedings.

Following restructuring and investment by Dutch and Chinese investors, the carrier relaunched flights to London City on October 30 last year, and also currently operates flights from Antwerp to Zurich and Munich.

Last month the carrier relaunched flights between Antwerp and Birmingham.

Commenting on the new Aberdeen service Konstantijn Huys, Commercial Director of VLM Regional, said:

“With the new route between Antwerp and Aberdeen, we are targeting customers from the oil and natural gas sector for an obvious reason.

“From Aberdeen, one of the busiest heliports in Europe, numerous helicopter flights are being carried out to offshore drilling platforms in the North Sea. And Antwerp is, after Houston in Texas, the second largest petrochemical cluster in the world.”
