Vietjet will launch the first nonstop flights connecting Vietnam and Queensland this June with a new two-weekly Airbus A330-300 route between Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane.

Outbound flights will depart HCMC on Mondays and Fridays at 1005 and land in Brisbane at 2110 local time. The inbound flights will depart at 2310 and arrive back in HCMC at 0450 the following morning.

In celebration of the new route, from now to March 22, all Vietjet ‘Eco’ tickets between Vietnam and Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney) are on sale with a ‘zero-dollar’ base fare, meaning passengers only have to pay for taxes and fees.

Even more interestingly, Vietjet says it will provide free domestic transfer flights for passengers flying to Australia.

“We are very excited to fly first direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Queensland which is called the Sunshine state in Australia. The addition of Brisbane to our list of destinations would be another development to broadly connect Australia and Vietnam,” said Vietjet vice president Nguyen Thanh Son.

Nguyen added: “Especially, with our recent introduced connecting services through Ho Chi Minh City and soon other Vietnamese hubs, Vietjet can bring more passengers from Asia and European countries to Australia. And vice versa, Australians now would find it super easy and economical to fly across Asian nations across its vast network which serves Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, mainland China, Thailand, India and Kazakhstan.”

“Vietnam is a rapidly growing market for Queensland, and we are delighted to have Vietjet join the BNE family. To have Vietnam and the Sunshine State connected for the first time by non-stop flights will deliver benefits in two countries. This historic new service from Vietjet will enable family and friends in Vietnam easy connection to Queensland,” commented Brisbane Airport chief executive officer Gert-Jan de Graaff.

Vietjet will deploy its widebody Airbus A330-300 on its flights to Australia. These feature 12 ‘SkyBoss’ business class seats, and 365 seats in economy class, including ‘Eco’ and ‘Deluxe’ offerings.

Vietjet will launch twice-weekly flights to Melbourne on April 8, followed by thrice-weekly Sydney rotations from April 12.

It is estimated that Vietjet’s direct flights to Brisbane will generate US$25.6 million for Queensland’s visitor economy and support 240 Queensland jobs in the first year.
