Turkish Airlines has outlined expansion plans as part of its recent Roadshow presentation.

The flag carrier currently flies to 291 destinations in 128 countries – the most of any carrier worldwide – and has named around 30 routes among its future plans.

In the UK these include Glasgow and Newcastle, which would add to existing UK airports served by the carrier including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted.

Other future destinations include:

  • Detroit, Denver, Orlando, Lima, Santiago and Rio de Janeiro in the Americas
  • Sydney, Melbourne, Phnom Penh, Atyrau and Osaka in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Bergen, Iasi, Katowice, Nantes, Timisoara, Bayburt and Yozgat in Europe
  • Abha and Salalah in the Middle East
  • Aswan, Brazzaville, Hargeisa, Lome, Monrovia, Port Sudan and Windhoek in Africa

No dates have yet been set for the above routes – Turkish Airlines had been planning to launch flights to Australia at the end of this year, but it now understood these will not happen until 2024.

The airline also highlighted new destinations added in the last couple of years including long-haul services to Seattle, Newark, Dallas and Vancouver.

Turkish said that in August this year it surpassed respective 2019 capacity levels by 24 per cent.

In April this year the carrier outlined a target of expanding its fleet to over 800 aircraft by 2033 – up from around 400 aircraft now.

For several months the airline has been teasing an order for up to 600 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft, which when confirmed will be one of the largest aircraft orders in history.
