Lufthansa has rolled out the first B747-400 painted in its new livery, with the aircraft set to fly between Frankfurt and Toronto today.

The carrier unveiled its revamped livery to mixed reaction in February, but was forced to make adjustments to the main blue colour, after concerns it could appear too dark in certain conditions.

Lufthansa posted a photo of the aircraft on its news Twitter page, along with the words:

“Touchdown in Frankfurt! Our D-ABVM is the first #Lufthansa @Boeing B747-400 in the new livery. With her we test an optimized blue after small adjustments. First flight tomorrow from FRA to YYZ. #ExploreTheNew”

Business Traveller‘s consumer editor Alex McWhirter has also learned that the crane motif has been enlarged on the tailfin, and a second yellow square has been added to the right of door A as a welcome sign.

When the livery was originally unveiled,  Lufthansa said that a total of 40 aircraft would get the new livery by the end of the year, with CEO Carsten Spohr quoted as saying it would take eight years for the carrier’s entire fleet of 330 aircraft to be repainted.
