Indian carriers Spicejet and Indigo are set to shift their operations from terminal 2 to terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. Starting from September 5, Spicejet will shift its entire operations, while Indigo will partially shift its flight services to terminal 3 — the Interglobe Aviation-led airline’s flights of 5000 series will shift to terminal 3.
Commenting on this news, Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director, Spicejet said, “I am pleased to share that from September 5, 2019, Spicejet will consolidate its operations at Delhi airport by shifting entirely from terminal 2 to terminal 3. With this, our flight operations would be restricted to just two terminals – terminal 1 and terminal 3 of the Delhi airport.
“This move will enhance convenience of passengers travelling with us and provide them greater comfort and ease in transiting between domestic and international flights.”
Following this move, the passenger load at terminal 2 is expected to reduce by 27 per cent. Additionally, the shifting of operations will help the airport in enhancing the overall infrastructure of terminal 2, which post refurbishment, will be able to handle 18 million passengers per annum (MPPA), up from current 15 MPPA.
