SAS has announced plans to serve Toronto from both Copenhagen and Stockholm later this year.
Subject to approval from authorities the carrier will operate three flights per week from Copenhagen starting in June, as well as four weekly services from Stockholm.
There are currently no direct, nonstop flights between Stockholm and Toronto – Air Canada serves the Toronto-Copenhagen route.
Both routes will be served by SAS’ single-aisle A321 LR aircraft – the airline took delivery of its first next-generation Airbus Long Range aircraft in 2020, and had originally been set to roster the A321 LR onto the Copenhagen-Boston route from September of that year, before the onset of Covid-19 saw this postponed.
SAS completed the first transatlantic flight with the aircraft in December 2021, ahead of the plane’s official entry into service in March this year.
The carrier’s A321 LR is configured with 22 business class seats, with 12 in premium economy and 123 in economy.
The move means SAS will fly to seven destinations in the US and Canada this summer: Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Toronto.
Commenting on the news Karl Sandlund, EVP Commercial, SAS, said:
“We are happy to announce direct flights from Scandinavia to Toronto, taking the next step in strengthening our North America network. SAS’ new routes will make travel between Scandinavia and Canada easy and convenient for our travellers.
“Flights depart from Scandinavia at midday and from Toronto in the afternoon enabling good connections in either end to other destinations.
“SAS aims to be a global leader in sustainable aviation. As we continue to phase in new, fuel-efficient aircraft we now have one of Europe’s most modern fleets. The new, state-of-the-art aircraft will give our customers a more pleasant, comfortable and sustainable way of travelling.”
