Radisson Hotel Group has opened the first Spanish property under its lifestyle Radisson Red brand.
Radisson Red Madrid is located on the bustling Calle de Atocha and occupies an industrial building, which was formerly used as a sawmill in the 1800s before becoming a hotel in the 1900s.
Guests are welcomed by a red sculpture inspired by the city’s bear and strawberry tree monument in the Puerta del Sol square.
The 260 rooms, including 10 suites, feature floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies with city views. Artwork throughout the property is inspired by the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and works at the nearby Prado Museum, while local touches include elevator panels upholstered using typical Madrid fabrics.
Award-winning chef Eneko Atxa is at the helm of three of the hotel’s dining venues. Opening in November, the ground floor’s Nko restaurant offers Basque and Japanese fusion cuisine, while the rooftop is home to Nigiri Basque House by Nko. Atxa will also open “takeaway corner” De Bokata, serving innovative takes on sandwiches, cocktails and craft beers.
Meanwhile, the lobby bar Oso Rojo offers cocktails, live music on selected days and an all-day menu including light snacks, sandwiches and small plates.
Further facilities include a large meeting area, along with more intimate meeting spaces for up to 12 people with a terrace, while a gym will join the property in early November.
