“We started our loyalty program for frequent flyers, but as the number of partners has grown it’s actually frequent buyers who are now earning the most points,” said Olivia Wirth, CEO of Qantas Loyalty.
“The top 1,000 points balances are held by members who have maximised their points earn on everyday spend, with our partners like Woolworths and Red Energy or by using Qantas Points-earning credit cards. The expansion of the programme means you can earn points buying wine or buying a car, so the potential for larger balances without flying is huge.”
Wirth added that one member had managed to accrue more than 30 million Qantas Points through credit card spend over the past 12 months, enough to fly 100 times around the world in business class.
The Premier Titanium Mastercard is the latest in a series of credit cards launched by the airline, including the Qantas Premier Platinum and Qantas Premier Everyday cards, which were rolled out in 2017.
