The total number of passengers travelling through Oman’s airports from January-July 2022 has increased 187 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.
Inbound, outbound and transit passengers in the airports of Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm reached 4,907,599 by the end of July 2022.
The number of outbound passengers alone rose 127 per cent compared to January-July 2021, according to state run Oman News Agency.
The total number of international (inbound and outbound) flights at the Muscat, Salalah and Sohar airports by the end of July 2022 increased by 142.1 per cent to reach 32,608, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The number of international and domestic flights (outbound and inbound) at Muscat International airport increased 114.8 per cent year-on-year to 34,556, which in turn carried 4,251,173 passengers by the end of July 2022 compared to 16,084 flights which carried 1,647,724 passengers over the same period in 2021.
By nationality, Indians (144,845) topped the total number of passengers for outbound and inbound flights at Muscat International airport by the end of July 2022, followed by Bangladeshi passengers (47,424) and Pakistani nationals( 37,797).
At Salalah Airport, there was a 95.3 per cent increase in the number of international and domestic flights, which collectively reached 4,601 as of the end of July 2022. The number of international flights rose 201.9 per cent, while domestic flights increased by 52.9 per cent to reach 2,578 flights compared to 1,686 flights in January-July 2021.
Also at Salalah Airport, the number of passengers in domestic (inbound and outbound) flights at increased by 68.2 per cent year-on-year by the end of July 2022.
At Sohar Airport, the number of international and domestic flights (inbound and outbound) reached 534 by the end of July 2022 and the number of passengers carried by those flights reached 47,697.
Duqm Airport recorded a 6.6 per cent rise in domestic flights (outbound and inbound) to reach 386 by the end of July 2022 compared to 362 flights during the corresponding period in 2021. The number of passengers that those flights carried also increased 45.1 per cent from 25,402 for the seven month period of January-July 2021 to 36,868 passengers over the same period this year.
