Lufthansa’s new short and medium-haul seat has launched on the carrier’s first A321 neo aircraft, with features including USB ports, tablet holders and up to 26 degrees of recline.

Designed by Italian manufacturer Geven, the seat was unveiled last year, and is set to be introduced across three Lufthansa Group carriers – Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines.

Lufthansa says that the seat offers more personal space, achieved by a combination of a new slimline backrest, and “the newly developed horizontal arrangement of the literature bag above the table”.

In economy the seat has been set to 20 degrees of recline (as opposed the previous 12 degrees), and business class customers can “adjust the backrest to 26 degrees during the cruise”.

Each row of seats features USB ports, and tables also have “a special column” to hold tablets.

The aircraft is configured with a total of 215 seats, with 24 in business class.

All A320 family aircraft delivered to Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines from now on will feature the new seat design, with the A321 neo now “configured and unified in such a way that aircraft can be adapted quickly and easily when transferred between Lufthansa Group airlines”, allowing the group to “react faster and more flexibly to current developments and to move aircraft and capacities more easily and efficiently to another airline or to another hub”.

Over 100 new A320 neo family aircraft are expected to be delivered to the group by 2025.

Commenting on the news Paul Estoppey, Head of Product Management Cabin Lufthansa Group Hub Airlines, said:

“Many customer feedbacks have been incorporated into the design of the seat. We received a lot of positive feedback on the new features. We are therefore convinced that the new seat and the modern ambience of the cabin will further improve the travel comfort of our guests.”
