Lufthansa has announced an expansion of its route network out of Frankfurt airport for summer 2021.
The carrier is adding a total of 15 new summer destinations (some of which are a continuation of existing winter routes) in Greece, Spain, Egypt, Croatia, Cyprus, Italy, Tunisia and Bulgaria.
Lufthansa said that the biggest focus would be on Greece, with routes to Corfu, Chania, Mykonos, Kos, Kavala/Thrace and Preveza/Peloponnese.
Other new summer 2021 destinations from Frankfurt will include Hurghada in Egypt, Paphos in Cyprus, Rijeka in Croatia, Lamezia Terme in Italy, Djerba in Tunisia, and Varna in Bulgaria.
Flights to Jerez de la Frontera, Canary Islands and Tenerife will also be continued from the winter season.
The carrier said that the departure and arrival times for the routes would be “ideal for holidaymakers”, with early morning departures from Frankfurt and evening arrivals into the city.
Harry Hohmeister, member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said that the demand for vacation and leisure trips “is recovering much faster than that for business trips”, adding that “With Lufthansa, we already have a great and longstanding deal of expertise in tourist offers and we are now resolutely expanding this as part of our strategy”.
In total the carrier will offer “around 70 weekly connections to 29 purely tourist destinations” from Frankfurt next summer. A full list of the new destinations, frequencies and start dates can be seen below.
Flights are now bookable, and customers booking before December 31, 2020 will benefit from the current flexible policy allowing tickets to be “rebooked as often as desired free of charge”.
