London’s ever popular City Airport has its first link with the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

The route has been launched by Polish airline LOT using an Embraer 190 capable of accommodating 106 passengers.

Services will operate up to twice daily giving a weekly total of 12 flights.

Business Traveller reported on this new route in June last year. And unusually (airlines tend to tinker with schedules nearer launch date) the timings are the same as reported in our news piece of 2018.

Ever since national airline Malev failed some years ago Hungary has not had a conventional airline.

In other words an airline able to interline with other carriers and to provide long-haul service.

As a member of Star Alliance LOT naturally works closely with other members. LOT can also interline with other members of the trade body IATA.

And it now seems LOT is coming to the rescue…in a small way.

According to aeronews.ro, the airline will connect Budapest with Bucharest from September 2.

But perhaps the most interesting development was LOT launching non-stop transatlantic service from Budapest covering New York and Chicago last year.

In other news LOT began operating non-stop flights between Warsaw and London City last month.

And it plans to launch flights from Vilnius to London City from on May 1 (schedule details not yet finalised).
