Los Angeles International airport has received $50 million in funding for infrastructure work including the reconfiguration of its main entrance.

The funds are part of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will provide a total of $25 billion over five years for airport infrastructure projects.

At LAX the investment will go towards reconstructing and modernising the airport’s terminal roadway systems, with nearly eight miles of roads being built leading to and within the Central Terminal Area, along with the reconfigured gateway entrance which it hopes will “help alleviate traffic congestion”.

The airport said that along with the forthcoming Automated People Mover system – which is expected to be operational in 2023 – the works would “dramatically change how the travelling public enters and exits LAX”.

“LAX is our gateway to the world, and every dollar we invest today to help realize its full potential will create prosperity for our region for generations to come,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti.

“When complete, this project made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the leadership of Secretary Buttigieg will help transform LAX into a more accessible, visitor-friendly destination – and join a long list of projects that are turning LAX into one of the premier airports in the world.”
