The final major phase of the $2.3 billion Delta Sky Way at LAX project has been completed, some six years after the redevelopment programme began.
Last year a centralised check-in lobby, expanded security checkpoint and baggage claim areas, and a new Delta Sky Club were unveiled, and in June this year Delta opened a dedicated check-in area for its Delta One customers, as well as a new passenger entry point at the airport’s Terminal 3.
The final phase of works has seen new moving walkways open to customers looking to connect between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal, eliminating the need to catch a bus between the two terminals.
The Delta Sky Way at LAX project began back in 2017 with Delta moving its entire operations at the airport from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminal 2 and 3.
The works had been scheduled for completion in late 2024, but lower passengers numbers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic allowed for the temporary closure of Terminal 3, meaning the project could be completed 18 months ahead of schedule.
Business Traveller will be travelling with Delta through LAX next week, and will post reviews on this site of the flights and the new Sky Club in due course.
Delta operates more than 155 peak-day flights to nearly 55 destinations from LAX, serving 19 of the 20 top markets for Los Angeles customers. The carrier is set to launch flights from the airport to Auckland later this year.
Commenting on the news Scott Santoro, Delta’s VP of global sales, said:
“This modern, state-of-the-art facility has been at the centre of Delta’s efforts to become the premier airline of Los Angeles, and now, as we as we celebrate this years-long project being finished much earlier than expected, we are better equipped than ever to provide Angelenos and all of our customers traveling through LA with the truly seamless and elevated experience that they deserve.”
