LATAM has announced plans to suspend its flights between London and Lima from 2 February, 2024.
The route was only launched at the start of December, and Business Traveller’s Hannah Brandler reviewed the carrier’s business class service on the London-bound leg.
Flight review: LATAM Boeing 787 Premium Business Lima-London
As flagged on our forum, the latamtrade.com website has published an alert confirming that the route will be suspended between 2 February and 20 March, 2024, with the carrier citing “commercial adjustments”.
In addition to the confirmed suspension dates, LATAM said that flights on subsequent dates “will be closed for sale in the system until further notice”.
LATAM has provided Business Traveller with the following statement:
“From December 1, 2023 we began our direct Lima-London operation. Since then, with all the authorizations, we have been making multiple efforts to provide projection and sustainability over time.
“Even so, the British aeronautical authority – subsequently – applied an operational restriction, so flights on said route will have to be suspended during the period February-March 2024, also meaning a postponement in what was already planned in terms of internal movements and roles of command and cabin crews.
“The restriction is not compatible with the dynamism with which LATAM Airlines Peru has been promoting connectivity in the region and developing its operations in the rest of the countries around the world.
“Precisely due to this great dynamism typical of our industry, in 2023 LATAM Airlines Peru was able to activate seven international routes and we will be able to share new positive news about our operation soon.
“We remind you that our passengers will be able to continue flying directly to London until January 31; and during the months of February and March, they will be able to reach said destination from Lima via Sao Paulo or via Madrid.
“At LATAM Airlines Perú we remain committed to the connectivity of the country and the region.”
LATAM is currently the only nonstop route between the UK and Peru – British Airways previously flew between Gatwick and Lima but cancelled the route after one season.
