Jet 2 has suspended all remaining flights and holidays to mainland Spain for the rest of the 2020 summer season, blaming “the ongoing uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the current UK government advice”.

The decision will affect routes to Alicante, Barcelona and Malaga, and follows on from last week’s decision to suspend flights to the Balearic islands of Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca for the rest of the season.

In addition the low-cost carrier is to suspend all flights and holidays to the Croatian destinations of Dubrovnik and Split from September 6, similar the same reasons given above.

Jet 2 said that it was “obviously very disappointed to be making this announcement”, adding that “To give customers more choice when it comes to booking or rebooking their summer 20 holidays, we recently announced hundreds of new flights to in-demand destinations, representing almost 100,000 additional seats”.

Last month the carrier increased capacity on resumed services to the Portuguese destination of Faro, following “strong customer demand” after the country was added to the UK’s quarantine exemption list.

It’s unclear what impact this week’s decision by the Welsh and Scottish governments to reimpose quarantine restrictions for arrivals from Portugal will have – Jet 2 has bases in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
