IHG Hotels and Resorts has unveiled the multi-million-dollar renovation of the Intercontinental Sydney.
Located in Sydney’s heritage-listed Treasury building of 1851, the hotel has undergone a $120 million transformation which included a redesign of its guest rooms, public spaces, wellness areas, club lounge, restaurants and bars.
Local architecture studio Woods Bagot oversaw the redesign, taking inspiration from the Australian landscape, Sydney harbour and neighbouring Royal Botanic Garden.
The 509 rooms and suites feature green and blue hues, while “quintessential Australian elements of water, sand, wood and sky” have been incorporated into the design. New features include Google Chromecast services, Byredo amenities and an enhanced minibar offering with custom-made products from local suppliers.
The refreshed Club Rooms also include access to the hotel’s new Club Intercontinental lounge within the property’s reimagined rooftop space, which offers views of Sydney Harbour.
The entrance area has also been redesigned to feature reception pods for check-in, along with a feature art wall that depicts a timeline of the city and property from 1788 to the present day.
Aster Bar on level 32 (the rooftop) is now open to the public for the first time, and the hotel has also launched new bar and dining destination The Treasury, located in the original cortile of the building where the nation’s first grape vine plantation was laid.
The newly designed breakfast space, The Conservatory, for in-house guests features open cooking stations and a walk-in pantry, and can also be booked as a private event space. There are an additional 14 flexible meeting and event areas, with revamped F&B offerings.
Leanne Harwood, SVP managing director for JAPAC, IHG Hotels and Resorts commented on the revamp:
“Intercontinental Sydney remains one of our flagship properties in the region and we are delighted to share its full transformation today.
“The Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts brand has been pioneering luxury travel for more than 75 years and this hotel is a shining example of how we have evolved the brand and the luxury experience for our guests over the many decades.”
To mark the transformation, the hotel is offering guests staying during the month of October a complimentary glass of Hunter Valley sparkling wine at The Treasury.
