IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans for an Intercontinental property within Egypt’s forthcoming New Administrative Capital.

The new city is under construction around 30 miles to the east of Cairo, and is part of the country’s Egypt Vision 2030 programme of economic development.

IHG said that the 300-room Intercontinental Cairo New Capital – which is set to open in early 2026 – “will be located in the heart of the city, surrounded by landmarks such as the Presidential Palace, the Government Square, and the Opera”.

Facilities will include a rooftop bar, outdoor and indoor pools, a 250 sqm health club, 800 sqm spa, eight meeting rooms and “a wide range of dining options including an all-day and specialty restaurants”.

IHG currently operates five hotels in Egypt – the Intercontinental Cairo Semiramis, Intercontinental Citystars Cairo, Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi, Holiday Inn Cairo – Citystars and Staybridge Suites Cairo – Citystars.

A total of nine properties are also set to open in the next three to five years, including Crowne Plaza West Cairo Arkan which is currently accepting reservations from February 28, 2022.
