Business Traveller rounds up new and upcoming hotels from brands including Naumi, W Hotels and Six Senses.
Moxy Minneapolis Uptown, United States
Moxy, a Marriott International brand, has opened its first property in Minneapolis. Owned by Minneapolis-based Graves Hospitality and designed by local architects, the six-storey hotel features 125 rooms. Like most Moxy properties, the hotel is geared towards the millennial traveller. It features a vinyl listening lounge, record room and green suite room, all nods to Minneapolis’ local music scene. As for dining, guests can head to the Moxy bar or grab takeaway food from the 24/7 food shop.
Naumi Auckland Airport, New Zealand
Naumi Hotels has opened its first hotel in New Zealand with its Auckland Airport hotel. The property is only Naumi’s third hotel, joining the brand’s two other locations in Singapore. It is located off the flight path near The North Island’s Villa Maria Wine Estate, one of New Zealand’s most awarded wineries. Hosting 193 rooms and suites and 500 sqm of meeting space, the hotel also features an outdoor swimming pool and English garden. The hotel’s restaurant and bar, Paksa, serves a variety of Asian food.
Burgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa, Obburgen, Switzerland
Open since September 2017, the Burgenstock Hotel sits atop the Burgenberg mountains ridge and overlooks the beautiful Lake Lucerne. The hotel is part of the Burgenstock Resort and features a 10,000 sqm spa. It houses 102 suites, all with views of the lake, and conference rooms as well. Other venues include the Spices Kitchen and Terrace, an eatery featuring Asian dishes, and the Lake View Cigar Lounge. The resort lies about 80km from Zurich, about an hour’s drive and two hours’ train ride.
Fraser Suites Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Singapore-based serviced apartment operator Frasers Hospitality is opening its first property in Saudi Arabia. Set for a soft opening in February 2018, the property will come into full operation during spring 2018. The facility offers 95 units of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom luxury apartments along with meeting rooms that can be booked for an extra fee. Buffet breakfast is served daily in the Dining Room, and the Lobby Lounge also features an alfresco café. The property is also located about 40km from King Khalid International Airport.
W Osaka, Japan
W Hotels Worldwide will be opening its first hotel in Japan, debuting in 2021. Owned by Sekisui House, the 27-floor hotel will house 337 guestrooms and suites. The hotel lies in close proximity to the Osaka Loop Line and is just an hour from Kansai International Airport. In addition to being located amid Dotonbori, Osaka’s nightlife and entertainment district, the hotel itself features multiple restaurants and bars including the Woo Bar and another bar at the pool. W hotels recently opened properties in China and India, and plans to reach 75 hotels globally by the end of 2020.
Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell, Singapore
Six Senses plans to open two hotels in Singapore within the next year, each restored heritage buildings. Six Senses Duxton is located in old Chinatown’s Tanjong Pagar district, its building refashioned by hotel designer Anouska Hempel. The hotel houses 49 guestrooms and suites along with a Chinese-centric restaurant and an antiquarian-library-themed lobby bar. Six Senses Duxton is slated to open in April 2018.
The aforementioned hotel’s counterpart, Six Senses Maxwell, is located opposite Maxwell Food Centre, a renowned hawker market in the heart of Chinatown. Designed by French architect Jacques Garcia, the hotel will offer 138 guestrooms and suites. Reflecting the building’s original colonial model, the building will feature a verandah that stretches around the building and 50 different room designs. Facilities include a Six Senses Spa, outdoor swimming pool, champagne bar and lounge, whisky bar, boardroom and club lounge.
