Located in Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Gallops, South Mumbai’s iconic restaurant has started a new high tea experience called Tea Charlies. The restaurant features a British-inspired architecture with high ceiling, dark wood furniture, white tablecloths and glowing chandeliers.
After you settle in, a member of the hotel staff welcomes you and asks for your food and tea preferences. (I opted for a mixed food selection and a cup of TGL Co. Tea). Guests sitting by the window are offered stunning views of the racecourse around.
The staff then brings a box of nine tea brews to select from, followed by a little tea smelling ritual. A must recommended tea option is the Pearl of the Caribbean white tea — white Shou Mei tea, pineapple, mango, barberries and mallow, a refreshing and fruity mix.
The high tea menu at Gallops comprises of classics like English butter cookies, scones with highland cream, macarons and a specially crafted menu that changes every day for Tea Charlies.
Guests can also try chicken and avocado wrap — succulent chicken topped with fresh chopped avocados; scones with cream and jam and Arabic falafel. Raspberry macaron, spiced carrot cake and bocconcini and tomato sandwiches are some other highlights of the menu.
The Tea Charlies is set to run for a period of six months. Guests can opt for either coffee or a glass of champagne in exchange for a cup of tea with unlimited food replenishment.
