The Dusit Thani Bangkok enjoyed a 48-year run as an iconic property in the Thai capital from its opening in 1970 to its closure earlier this month.
While it has been known for some time that the hotel would be knocked down and replaced with a new mixed-use development (including a new iteration of the hotel) built in cooperation with Thai retail property developer Central Pattana, that 2022 project had yet to be publicly bestowed with a name.
Dusit Thani recently announced that the project will be called “Dusit Central Park”, taking inspiration from “iconic properties found adjacent to parks in New York and London”. While the company didn’t name any particular parks in those two cities, it possibly has New York City’s Central Park and London’s Hyde Park in mind.
The project is valued at 36.7 billion baht (around US$1.15 billion) and covers 440,000 square metres of “prime real estate” on the corner of Silom and Rama IV Road, a major road in Bangkok named after the country’s fourth monarch.
Dusit Thani also announced that the project will feature not only a reimagining of the iconic hotel, but also a 69-storey tower of luxury residences offering views of Lumpini park, a “state-of-the-art” office tower called Central Park Offices with 90,000 square metres of space, a high-end shopping mall called Central Park Shopping Complex, and a “large” rooftop park.
The residences will be split between the 159-unit Dusit Residences, which will “provide a luxury and timeless standard of living” and 230-unit Dusit Parkside, which will be “suitable for city workers seeking a stylish home and contemporary lifestyle”. Dusit Thani did not provide information about expected pricing of the residences in its press release. Dusit Hotels & Resorts website says bookings will open “soon” and prospective tenants can register their interest here.
Dusit Central Park is set to open in three phases, according to a statement on Dusit Hotels & Resorts’ website. The hotel will come first, followed by Central Park Offices and Central Park Shopping Complex in 2023. Finally (though Dusit does not provide an exact date), the Dusit Residences will open.
