Hong Kong airline Cathay Dragon and US carrier American Airlines have launched a new codeshare agreement.

The agreement means that passengers flying on American Airlines will have access to four new destinations and increased service to three existing markets in Southeast Asia.

American Airlines will place its code on select Cathay Dragon flights from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), providing American customers “seamless connecting service to seven cities beyond Hong Kong”, according to a press release from American Airlines. The new codeshare flights are now available for purchase for travel beginning on July 11.

Codeshares allow passengers to book an itinerary with different operating airlines under a single booking, travel with a single boarding pass collected at the departure airport and have their checked luggage delivered all the way to their final destinations.

The new destinations are:

  • Dhaka, Bangladesh (DAC)
  • Chiang Mai, Thailand (CNX)
  • Da Nang, Vietnam (DAD)
  • Phuket, Thailand (HKT)

The agreement also increases frequencies on the following routes:

  • Penang, Malaysia (PEN)
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (KUL)
  • Hanoi, Vietnam (HAN)
