Loganair will resume scheduled flight operations at Carlisle airport from June 4.
There have been no scheduled flights at this Cumbrian airport for the past 25 years and Loganair will be launching routes to London (Southend), Dublin and Belfast City.
As this recent forum thread discusses, Cumbria is not the easiest area to access by air as the nearest airports of Manchester and Liverpool are some distance away.
Rail services from London with Virgin Trains West Coast take several hours and some fares (judging by reader feedback) are quite high.
Carlisle airport has been renamed Carlisle Lake District.
London Southend will be served twice daily Monday to Friday with a single daily service on Saurday and Sunday. Both Dublin and Belfast will have a single daily service.
Prices start at £44.99 one-way for London Southend and £39.99 to Dublin and Belfast. Fares include 20 kgs checked baggage allowance.
Loganair will operate all flights with Saab 340 turbo-props.
Says Loganair MD Jonathan Hinkles:
“We’re both delighted and honoured to become the first operator at the new Carlisle Lake District airport and partner Stobart [the operator of both Carlisle and Southend airports] will open up Loganair’s services to a whole new range of customers.”
