Seoul Incheon-based Asiana Airlines, a member of Star Alliance, will resume flights to Shenzhen in Southern China from the end of October. The carrier will serve the route five times a week with two-class Airbus A321 neo aircraft.
Furthermore, Asiana will also relaunch flights between Seoul Gimpo, which is closer to downtown, and Beijing, also from late October. This will be on dual-class Airbus A321 aircraft.
This will complement its flights to the Chinese capital from Incheon.
To promote the restoration of these services, Asiana says it is offering passengers an additional piece of checked baggage free of charge, as well as certain other discounts.
Separately, also from 29 October, Asiana will restore four-weekly service between Incheon and Sendai in Japan, another Airbus A321 route.
Commencing 15 November, the Kumho Group airline will also restore a fourth daily flight between Incheon and Narita near Tokyo. It will fly A330-300 aircraft thrice a day, and an A380 once daily on the service.
Including Gimpo-Haneda, Asiana will operate seven daily flights between Seoul and Tokyo this winter.
Based on the airline’s latest plans, Asiana plans to continue flying the A380 until 2026.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over whether the airline’s merger with flag carrier Korean Air will proceed as planned.
Various anti-trust authorities are blocking the transaction, and Asiana creditors including the Korea Development Bank (KDB), are reportedly looking for new suitors for South Korea’s second-largest carrier.
