American Airlines is suspending routes to 15 cities across the United States in October.
The flight suspensions will begin on October 7. American says the changes are “only in place for the October schedule period”, which runs through November 3.
The carrier says its decision to adjust its schedule is a result of low demand and the expiration of the air service requirements associated with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act – an economic stimulus bill passed by the US government in March in response to the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The airline will continue to re-assess plans for these and other markets as an extension of the Payroll Support Program remains under deliberation,” reads a statement from the airline.
The US airline says it will release the full, updated October schedule on August 29.
The carrier adds that it will publish its updated November schedule by late-September.
