American Airlines has unveiled a number of new offerings for the summer season, which include updates to wifi connectivity and new inflight dining options.
Tech enhancements will include complimentary wifi for T-Mobile customers across all of the carriers’ wifi-equipped regional and narrowbody aircraft by July.
Those travelling internationally, meanwhile, can expect “faster wifi speeds and a more reliable service” thanks to the carrier’s plans to increase bandwidth on its widebody aircraft. According to American Airlines, this will make it the only major carrier in the US “to offer 100 per cent mainline aircraft with video streaming capabilities”.
Airlines including Emirates and Singapore Airlines have begun to roll out free wifi for customers in recent months, while Delta’s partnership with T-Mobile will see it introduce free inflight wifi to all passengers by the end of 2024.
On the topic of streaming, American Airlines’ existing partnership with Apple TV+ will see it offer new subscribers two free months to continue watching Apple Originals after they have landed.
American Airlines is also adding new options to its inflight dining programme this summer. The carrier is introducing a new plant-based bulgogi noodle bowl, featuring yakisoba noodles, stir-fried vegetables and plant-based beef, for customers flying in its premium cabins on transcontinental Flagship services.
The airline has also partnered with Chicago-based restaurant Avli on the Park to bring a new menu to customers flying in premium cabins from Chicago O’Hare International to Athens, Barcelona, Dublin, London, Paris and Rome. Dishes include a Greek beef orzo stew and Kagiana egg scramble for breakfast.
For those seated in the Main Cabin, the buy-on-board programme will include new options such as a fruit and cheese plate (complete with cheese, grapes and chocolate) and a breakfast bag, which includes yogurt, granola and a fig bar. These will be available for purchase on flights of 1,300 miles or more, departing between 0946 and 2100 or 0500 and 0945, respectively.
