Air Japan, a new All Nippon Airways (ANA) brand for medium-haul international routes, today unveiled select products and services to be introduced on its inaugural flights.
The airline plans to debut in February 2024 on flights from Japan to Southeast Asian destinations, complementing ANA’s Peach budget offering on domestic and shorter regional routes.
Air Japan will operate as a low-cost carrier and fly Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The cabin will be configured with 324 economy class seats made of premium Japanese faux leather, which ANA says is particularly soft and durable, as well as lightweight.
ANA promises 32 inches of legroom on Air Japan services.
As an added convenience for smartphone and tablet users, Type-A and Type-C USB ports and tablet holders will be provided.
The cabin interior and seats were designed by the British design company Acumen Design Associates, an award-winning product and transport design agency, renowned for its many innovations in aircraft interiors. The manufacturing was led by Safran, a leading supplier of quality seats to airlines worldwide.
“At Air Japan, we are dedicated to the passion of our passenger’s pursuits, which inspires us to create inflight products and services to foster the innovative spirit of those flying with us,” said Hideki Mineguchi, President of Air Japan. “We hope the launch of these new amenities create a unique and outstanding travel experience for our passengers.”
Air Japan will offer menus for a set fee that may be reserved online in advance, and in addition, provide meals and snacks that can be purchased onboard the flight.
Initial routes have yet to be announced although flights to Bangkok will almost certainly be among the first to launch, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific understands.
Air Japan’s low-cost medium-haul concept follows the pandemic-launch of Zipair, a medium- and long-haul low-cost carrier launched by ANA rival Japan Airlines (JAL).
These carriers will go head-to-head competing also with Singapore Airlines’ low-cost offering Scoot, the AirAsia X carriers and Vietjet’s growing Airbus A330-300 medium-haul budget flights connecting Northeast Asia with holiday destinations across Southeast Asia.
