London is set to see the opening of the eco-focused 1 Hotel Mayfair this summer.

1 Hotels is a nature-inspired lifestyle brand operated by SH Hotels and Resorts, which has several properties in the US (South Beach, Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge, West Hollywood, San Francisco and Nashville) along with a hotel in Toronto in Canada and Sanya in China.

The English capital is now set to join the network, with a nine-storey hotel on Berkeley Street, overlooking Green Park.

Described as the capital’s “first mission-driven sustainable luxury hotel”, 1 Hotel Mayfair will be located in a renovated and reconstructed building, with more than 80 per cent of the existing structure retained, saving up to 4,200 tonnes of carbon as a result.

Sustainably sourced and recycled materials have been used throughout the reconstruction process, including the use of reclaimed metal floor tiles, solar panels and large areas of green living walls.

The property will comprise 181 rooms and suites, along with the ground-floor restaurant Dovetale by award-winning chef Tom Sellers with an adjacent cocktail bar, coffee shop Neighbours, a fitness centre and Bamford Wellness spa with three treatment rooms.

Interiors will feature reclaimed Yorkshire dry stone walls, a reception desk created from a naturally felled piece of wood from Sussex, and more than 200 plant species.

Guest rooms will include living moss walls, timber flooring crafted from fallen trees on the Windsor Estate, and Welsh slate bathroom vanities.

The property will also showcase original artworks which highlight the human impact on natural surroundings. These include Flow by marine-plastic artist Steve McPherson and feather sculptures by Kate McGwire.
